Question 18: What is your purpose in art-making?

When I make art work or a series of works, I’m trying to communicate ideas, I’m trying to get across the notion that there are complex relationships between things. And hopefully the audience is able to see that. It’s about the ideas that things are interrelated, that usually the surface, that there’s more to things than what you see on the surface, and that everything usually really deserves closer examination to really see the whole story, to see what it’s about. I’ve tried to pursue that in several different forms, some more complicated than others and some simpler than others. Some of the ones I’m most satisfied with have been the simplest ones, and you can usually tell when you’ve made the connections.
