Question 11: Which artists or artistic styles have influenced you? How does this play out, in concrete terms?

Among the first things I did, there was often a lot of drawing. I already had a particular interest in good drawing, let’s say. As a child you are often praised if you draw well, so I had a certain amount of skill in drawing. Of course the first artists that ever meant anything to me were the great ones. I don’t know, Michelangelo or Da Vinci, those old ones that drew really well. But closer to now, there are artists such as Jacques Arseneault, who taught me drawing, that I consider to be a person who draws really well. He would be one of those that… When I think of someone who really appreciates good drawing, I think of Jacques Arseneault. Now as far as research into texture and materials, of course there are people like Antoni Tàpies that did a lot… When you look at what he has done, well, I find that very inspiring personally. Closer still there is someone like Roméo Savoie who also reminds me of works by Tàpies. I also like Romeo Savoie’s “blacks” a lot. When it comes to content, I certainly tend to go towards more dramatic stuff, of the Hieronymus Bosch or Francis Bacon type. I love those dark subjects.
