Question 1: When and how did you realize you wanted to be an artist?

I feel I’ve always known I was an artist. But becoming a professional artist, that really took me a long while to accomplish. I’m of the opinion that you are born an artist; you become one later, through practice but there has to be something there to base it on. I don’t come from an environment where you could say: When I grow up I’ll become an artist. That’s not something that you could have said. But I still come from a succession of women who had talent, each in her own way. If you had asked them, none of them would have dared consider herself an artist. And I understand that. So I guess I’m the first one in our lineage.
