Question 12: Are there any noteworthy events that influenced your career?

Transcription

I think that the most significant event that influenced my career was gaining access to sculpture while I attended l’École des Beaux-Arts. That encounter made it clear to me that I would continue to work in sculpture. After that, there was also the period where it became obvious that I couldn’t keep on doing sculpture half-time and teaching half-time, because I was going to produce half-measures my whole life. Because of the way I function I couldn’t keep it up. As well the work of sculpting is very demanding physically. I wasn’t able to lead two careers at once. So I had to make a choice and that’s when, over time, I chose to become a full-time sculptor. That was one thing that undeniably influenced my career because I was now able to work with complete dedication. Besides that, there may have been events that greatly influenced me, but it’s hard, I can’t pinpoint them. I’m the kind of person that sort of lets herself be penetrated like a sponge, little by little, by water, by the rain, and then at some point, well, that’s it, I suddenly realize that I’ve reached another stage in my career. But a whole series of events has obviously influenced that new stage.
