Question 1: When and how did you realize you wanted to be an artist?
At a very young age, I developed a special interest and a skill for drawing, then for painting. Even as a student and later on as a teacher, I became interested in the few art exhibitions held in my region, I took a few art classes. Once I became a teacher, I wanted to specialize in arts education. Therefore, with all intentions of teaching visual arts in schools, I went to study at l’École des Beaux-Arts in Montréal which, in 1968, became the visual arts department at l’UQAM. Since I had no credits in visual arts whatsoever, I had to take all the basic courses and this led me to discover sculpture for the first time. I received so much gratification, a lot of satisfaction, especially in sculpture, and that’s when I knew that I would continue doing sculpture. At the time I wanted to continue teaching as well, to help others enjoy what I had experienced, in artistic creation personally.
